Trip Johnson

Trip Johnson - Sculptor

Trip Johnson is a Missouri native, who made Fayetteville AR his home in 2003.  Trip found love for art early in life through drawing and painting animals at the age of 5.  He would find his love for sculpture and ceramics in high school and he would go onto taking every art class his high school provided.  Trip grew up in Sedalia Missouri and graduated from Missouri State University in 2002 with a BFA in Computer Animation and minored in Ceramic Sculpture.  Trip’s love for art had him exploring many different visual art disciplines in college including photography, painting, printmaking, casting, digital media, and life drawing but his love for ceramic sculpture inspired his creative freedom and vision for form.  Just out of college Trip had success with juried art competitions and had his work displayed in art galleries in Springfield and St. Louis Missouri.  He would later take on a career in the corporate world working for Architecture firm BRR and Walmart doing 3D Graphic Design & Store Design for 17 years.  Trip is currently re-evaluating his career and he’s drawn back into his love for ceramic sculpture and the creative outlet it provides him.

Trip’s work tends to be functional while being conceptually elevated into unique artistic expression.  “I love the creative freedom I get from working with clay.  I’m constantly experimenting with my forms and finishing techniques.  The endless possibilities with stains, washes, and glazes lend themselves well with my work which is texture heavy.”
